This chapter perfectly showcases why Brianna is such a hateful character. She has an adult mind and an adults experiences as well as knowledge from the novel… yet instead of actually trying to fix the problems she just acts like a b***** all the time. Lillian is a child and and unfortunate one at that. She was picked up and made into a princess because the father needed a future sacrifice. Sure, Brianna might be dumb enough not to understand this (despite having read the novel), but in this chapter she even considers the possibility that Lillian wants to “negotiate”. Yet for some reason she doesn’t understand that any negotiation would be that of a child’s negotiation. Lillian just don’t want her family to hate her. She is just a bit spoiled and acts out because the sudden appearance of Brianna really is a threat to that. As seen in a later chapter this really does become reality as she is “forced” to give up her seating place so that Brianna can sit there.

Brianna should understand something as simple as this, but when hearing Lillian speak what is on her mind, she just acts in a snide way and instead of actually trying to talk with her for real… she just blows her off and acts as smug stuck up b****.
