The reason he can only focus on a single child and ignore the others is because he doesn’t want to hurt the one who he has focus to.
The real issue is he is not only bad at expressing his feeling but also doesn’t want to be hated that’s why he play it safe that’s why it become much more of a problem.
I think that before the time get reset, the emperor did not hate Brit also the maid knows the emperor weakness uses Brit since the Emperor spoil her the most, the reason why the 1st prince hated both the fake princess and her maid is because he notice their behavior “Lily is acting and the maid gain power/influence outside and inside the Royal Palace which is abnormal”.
The emperor doesn’t hate Bri & the 1st prince he just can’t communicate properly the fact that he picked Lily as sacrifice even if she spoil her rotten proves this, he pick blood over his most favorite daughter even if that fake-princess manipulate him.
As for her surviving might be because she’s not a royal blood to begin with or the maid set up something behind the scene.
As for the Emperor becoming insane might be an assassination attempt, But Lily’s father is unknown there’s a chance that Lily father is the Priest since he is also a royal bloodline which also explain why Lily got Silver Hair and swapping baby is a part of the plan from the very beginning to make the Priest who is originally meant to be the Emperor takes back the throne by using Lily his daughter.
This will also explain why he survive she was never offered as a sacrifice which trigger the curse and kill the current royal family and the reason why the maid have influence outside of the palace.

Seeing as his past is that someone tried to kill his older brother and now seeing his child try to manipulate him for favor propably scares him so much for his actual daughter’s life that he’s too much of a coward to actually face and parent Lilian.
