It brings up an interesting philosophical question. In the real world, eating food one is allergic to only causes harm – it’s not like iocane powder. But if it’s written to work that way in the book, then can someone get rid of allergies that way? It opens a whole bunch of questions about how writing could accidentally alter the laws of nature in that world.
