Yeah i don’t think its the duke, he seems like he couldn’t care less about who inherits and more about being with Sophia. It was most likely Franz who did it so he can have a chance to become a duke as we see before meeting Judi, Rudi had no interest in marriage so if Franz can secure a royal( probably through that fake son of is he could become the duke. The whole plan was probably kill Jonas, then have fake son appear as Jonas child and then when they put him in the family register marry his mom and it all done he is duke.
Honestly, the Malina’s theory about the duke is full of air. While it may seem like the Duke has suspicious motives, it is simply not probable because the Duke would never assasinate Jonas. This is because of Sophia, who valued Jonas more than her own son. Moreover, I dont think the Duke would kill Vanessa. From what I have read, Vanessa couldn’t have been killed by the Duke because he would lose Sophia. If Sophia even heard such whispers at that time, I feel that she would have absconded with Jonas.
That’s a whole lot of speculation and no investigation was put into finding out the truth. For such a well-written story so far, this part almost seemed like it just jumped out of nowhere. I mean, if you’re gonna pinned the blame on the Duke, at least provided more substantial evidence or something. People of such prominent standing has such power in their words, whether or not to spread rumors, it’s still enough to plant doubt in other people’s mind.
Honestly, the why is what’s missing in this story. These two worship one princess, but why? Was she kind, was she generous, was she pure hearted? Why was the uncle’s mom so obsessed with this princess that she neglected her own son? Why would the husband want to marry a woman like that? What made him love her when her only character trait at that time was “obsessed with the princess”? You are told these people are obsessed/love someone else, but where is the why? Why would a guy want a woman obsessed with another woman to go through these lengths? They probably had little interaction if she only cared for the princess. I just don’t get it.

So if the duke killed Jonas then does that mean he was the one after Luca in the original? I was certain it was the cousin who sent those assassins, but now the duke is sounding really suspicious. But then again, Ruediger died because of it so idk.

It would be a great twist if it actually turned out Ruediger is somehow a bad guy, but I don’t believe it’s going that way nor I wish it. But it would work really well.

Vanessa was already pregnant with Judith from a commoner and she found out the Duke liked Sophia so with Sophia as a bargaining chip, Vanessa got a contract with the Duke to keep Judith a secret and she'll give him Sophia while the train construction is the public reward for having Jonas as the heir.And alsoI read in the comments that Jonas was planning something so the Duke killed him. I think the sus cousin told Jonas about Vanessa and the Duke's deal and made it out that the Duke is planning to get rid of Jonas so Reudiger can become heir but then I think what the cousin wants is to frame the Duke and Reudiger in Jonas's death so the Royal Family strips them of the Ducchy and then the cousin's family will get the Ducchy instead. ... On a side note, I think the cousin's dad obsessed over Vanessa and passed that obsession to the cousin....A lot of juicy details that I’d didn’t expect in the comments, definitely making me look more forward to future chapters!
