I think the past emperor was Rias’ father and he passed away, so the crown went to the uncle cuz otherwise it would have gone to a smol child….which hardly works out historically speaking.
The way Rias and his grandmother talked about the passing of the previous king made it seem that way, it was like a sour topic for how short of a mention it was….
