Chapter 4
The moment Do Ju-myung left the executive office, he went straight to see Myung-un the diviner.
No matter how famous the Baby Bodhisattva was said to be, there was no way she could surpass Myung-un’s spiritual insight.
Whenever there was an important matter concerning the family or the company, Ju-myung always consulted Myung-un before making a decision.
It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that the rise and fall of both his household and HaeNam Construction lay in Myung-un’s hands.
HaeNam Construction had already surpassed first place in the domestic construction industry and was now winning major overseas contracts, leaping forward as a global corporation.
Ju-myung firmly believed it was all thanks to Myung-un.
“Chairman, for you to visit without notice, your worries must be weighing heavily on you.”
Myung-un welcomed him warmly despite the unannounced visit.
The sums Ju-myung paid him were astronomical. To Myung-un, Ju-myung was nothing less than a goose that laid golden eggs.
“I had Jin-hyuk’s name created with Fire, Wood, and Earth energies in balance. Now they say he needs a woman of Water? Wouldn’t that be complete opposition?”
Ju-myung’s face was heavy with worry as he complained.
Do Jin-hyuk (都振赫).
The name had been commissioned from a famous naming master.
The surname Do carried Earth energy, the syllable Jin held Wood energy, and the final character Hyuk held Fire energy.
A name harmonizing Fire, Wood, and Earth was said to revive the family and bring prosperity.
Though Ju-myung had heard much about the Baby Bodhisattva’s reputation, he had never met her himself. So it was difficult to believe the fortune Jin-hyuk had brought home.
That was why he had come to Myung-un to verify it.
“That is exactly the problem. The name was formed that way.”
Shaking his bell for a long while, Myung-un finally spoke in a grave tone.
“What do you mean?”
Ju-myung’s eyes widened.
“Wood fuels Fire, Fire generates Earth. So the energy burns too brightly. That kind of fortune brings harm to the household. A woman with strong Water energy must enter his life to press it down.”
At Myung-un’s weighty voice, Ju-myung let out a shaky breath.
“So you mean… Jin-hyuk was right?”
“Yes, Chairman.”
“…”
Ju-myung couldn’t bring himself to ask why Myung-un hadn’t mentioned this before. Instead, he pressed his lips shut, though the displeasure on his face was plain to see.
“If you bring me the birth chart of his arranged partner, I can examine it.”
Sensing his mood, Myung-un offered the suggestion magnanimously. Of course, it wouldn’t be free.
Back at the company, Ju-myung sank heavily into his chair.
He no longer felt any urge to seek out the Baby Bodhisattva.
The prophecy was the same anyway.
‘A woman with strong Water energy…’
It was already June.
To find such a woman and arrange a marriage within the year, time was running far too short.

The next day, Yeon-su visited Su-ryeon in the hospital.
“You went through so much. Are you feeling okay?”
After her emergency surgery the previous day, Su-ryeon had been moved to a ward.
It might have been a common procedure, but it was still an organ removal.
Seeing Su-ryeon connected to blood drains, a catheter, and IV lines made Yeon-su’s heart ache.
“Yeah. They said it almost burst.”
Su-ryeon smiled weakly as she answered.
Yeon-su sat by her side and clasped her hand tightly.
They had become friends back in their first year of high school because their names were similar, and from then on, they had been inseparable.
If not for the sudden spiritual illness, Su-ryeon would have gone through college with her too. That thought always left Yeon-su with regret.
“Sis, you’re here?”
A man entered the room, greeting Yeon-su warmly.
“And you are…?”
Yeon-su blinked in confusion.
“It’s me, Kyung-hoon.”
Her eyes widened.
She hadn’t seen him since her high school graduation ceremony.
Back then, he had just been a sixth grader.
“Wow, it’s really been a long time, hasn’t it?”
Of her estranged family, Su-ryeon only kept in touch with her younger brother, Kyung-hoon.
He had been by her side during the surgery, the one she could rely on.
“Kyung-hoon, can you get me some banana milk?”
Su-ryeon asked with a smile.
“You could’ve just asked me. I’ll go.”
Yeon-su hurried to pull out her wallet, but Su-ryeon squeezed her hand and winked.
“Take your time. Get some fresh air while you’re out.”
At her insistence, Kyung-hoon left the room.
“He’s changed a lot.”
Watching his retreating figure, Yeon-su spoke softly.
In her memory, he was still a little boy. But now, his frame had grown strong and solid.
“Right? He’s all grown up now.”
Nodding, Su-ryeon waited until his footsteps faded before finally bringing up what she had been holding back.
“Did the VVIP client go home satisfied yesterday?”
“Satisfied? I don’t know. I might have completely ruined everything.”
Uneasy, Yeon-su answered, and Su-ryeon tapped her arm.
“No. Yeon-su, you really have talent.”
Her pale face brightened with color.
“What talent?”
“More money was deposited into the account than what was promised.”
It was thanks to that slip of paper Yeon-su had scribbled on with Su-ryeon’s forged signature.
“That’s… a relief, I guess.”
Still, Yeon-su’s expression was troubled.
Seeing this, Su-ryeon asked,
“Something happened, didn’t it?”
Yeon-su told her everything about the mishap in detail.
“What are you so worried about? It’s not like you’ll ever see him again.”
But Su-ryeon dismissed it like it was nothing.
Even so, Yeon-su couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling.
“Men don’t have the best memory anyway. He probably won’t even remember your face. At most, he’ll just think, ‘That Baby Bodhisattva was pretty.’”
Her certainty made Yeon-su perk up.
“Really?”
“More importantly, I got a good fortune reading about you.”
Her eyes went wide.
“You’ll get a job. At HaeNam Construction.”
“Aaahhh!” Yeon-su screamed for joy, forgetting she was in a hospital.
She was twenty-seven.
Because of her family’s financial struggles, she had gone through repeated leaves and returns to college, graduating later than most.
When she finally entered the job market, she faced failure after failure.
Her age and her unimpressive résumé put her at a disadvantage.
The only place she had even made it past the document stage to an interview was HaeNam Construction.
It was a contract position, but for her, it was a dream job.
“Are you really that happy?”
Su-ryeon asked with a smile.
“Yes. I’m so happy.”
Her fortunes had always been uncannily accurate.
Hearing those words brought tears of joy to Yeon-su’s eyes.

A few days later, Yeon-su received the acceptance call from HaeNam Construction.
Finally, her first day of work arrived.
The excitement had kept her awake the night before, leaving dark circles under her eyes.
She tied her hair neatly back into a ponytail and dabbed powder beneath her eyes until the shadows disappeared.
Like the vanishing circles, she felt sure her bad days were gone too.
“Let’s do well, Ha Yeon-su.”
She gave herself a pep talk as if hypnotizing herself.
Stepping off the bus, she looked up at the towering building.
It was the headquarters of HaeNam Construction.
Designed by a famous French architect, it wasn’t the typical rectangular building.
The sweeping curves of the exterior inspired the word “beautiful” at first glance.
Two identical towers were connected at the center by a transparent skybridge.
Standing on it and looking down would surely make one feel like they owned the world.
A smile spread across Yeon-su’s lips just looking at it.
Inside, she headed toward the small auditorium where the orientation for new employees was being held.
“May I have your name?”
An HR staff member waiting at the entrance asked.
“I’m Ha Yeon-su, joining the Marketing Team starting today.”
“Welcome. You’ll watch a company video here first, then move on to your departments. Please go inside and wait.”
A short while later, once all the new employees had taken their seats, the lights dimmed and a video began to play on the large screen.
The ideals of HaeNam Construction, its achievements, and its vision for the future unfolded in succession, making Yeon-su’s heart race faster with anticipation.
It was only a one-year contract, but good performance could lead to a permanent position.
When even the video about company regulations finished, the lights came back on.
Someone was now standing at the empty podium to the left.
A tall man with striking features.
His proportions were so perfect he could have been mistaken for a model, and all the new hires’ eyes turned to him at once.
“This is Executive Director Do Jin-hyuk of HaeNam Construction.”
The host introduced him.
The room erupted with applause, enthusiastic and loud.
But Yeon-su couldn’t clap.
Because standing there on the stage was none other than the VVIP client of the Baby Bodhisattva, the very man she had clumsily given a fortune to.
‘I’m finished. Completely finished.’
