Summary
Synopsis
The contract marriage between Hilia Richano, the Daughter of a Baron, and Duke Helios was built on two clear conditions: to repay the crushing debts burdening her family and to produce an heir for the ducal house.
Five years later, the agreement comes to an end.
On the day they draft the divorce papers, Caligo finds himself unable to let Hilia go.
“…Fine, let’s say our marriage was just a contract.
But how can you not even try to see your own child.”
“Do you believe that just because I gave birth to that child, I’m obligated to love it?
That child only exists because of the contract between you and me.”
“At the very least… I thought of you as a friend.
So tell me, what was I to you.”
“You were nothing to me.
Take care, Your Grace.”
With those final words, Hilia Richano walks away, leaving her child and family behind.

One of the reasons why I like this story is because it feels so different from other stories out there, where the contracted couple usually never goes through with the divorce. In this story, the romance actually begins after they’ve already fulfilled the terms of their marriage contract and are in the process of divorcing.
The author does a great job of helping readers understand both protagonists’ traumas and how they gradually heal each other along the way. I also think the child between them plays a huge role in strengthening their connection and keeping them emotionally tied together.
I can’t wait to see how the story progresses in the future because it truly feels like a one-of-a-kind story.
How do you you if a chapter is VIP-only?
I remember reading this long ago but then it just stopped. So glad it’s been picked up by my fav group
